With Big Data, comes big responsibility. Hospital-Acquired Conditions (HAC) tied with the ability to drill down at the incident level detail, enables the industry by enabling each member. Data enabled members, have instant insight to act on what works and doesn’t work. HAC-POA (Present on Admission) and more can be determined by making selection against an incident and diving into the details.
“HACs have a significant financial impact on the US health care system. Hospitals would benefit from better understanding the impact and frequency of these conditions in order to best target preventative strategies.”
“On February 8, 2006, the President signed the Deficit Reduction Act (DRA) of 2005. Section 5001(c) of DRA requires the Secretary to identify conditions that are: (a) high cost or high volume or both, (b) result in the assignment of a case to a DRG that has a higher payment when present as a secondary diagnosis, and (c) could reasonably have been prevented through the application of evidence-based guidelines.”
How Axis Group Helped
At a first glance of KPIs, the app identifies which HAC conditions are showing results and which conditions need further preventative measures. The HAC condition have been sorted by highest rate to drive user focus on items that need to be prioritized (can be modified as needed). Multiple HAC tiles on the right, present HAC rate breakout by a time-based trend chart, highlighting peaks. Ex. CAUTI condition showed a jump from 0.2 (Feb) to 0.67 (Mar), in one month. While the rate is lower than last year, the jump is significant and needs deeper dive.
